Job Description: Part-Time Youth Worker
Organization: Eritrean Muslim Community Association (EMCA)
Location: London
Reports to: Centre Manager
Contract Type: Part-Time (10 hours per week)
Hourly Rate: £15 per hour
Job Purpose
The Youth Worker will support and empower young people within the EMCA community. The role includes mentoring, delivering educational and awareness workshops, promoting leadership and volunteering, and supporting funding applications for youth programs to help sustain and expand youth initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver weekly youth engagement sessions and activities.
- Facilitate workshops on crime prevention, drug awareness, mental health, and life skills.
- Provide one-to-one mentoring for education, careers, and personal development.
- Identify at-risk youth and provide early intervention support.
- Build partnerships with schools, mosques, and youth organizations.
- Promote volunteering and leadership opportunities within EMCA.
- Support the Centre Manager in identifying and applying for youth-related grants and funding.
- Maintain attendance records, progress logs, and programmed evaluation reports.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Experience working with young people in community, educational, or faith settings.
- Strong communication, mentoring, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and confidentiality policies.
- Experience supporting or applying for community funding or youth grants.
- Ability to engage with diverse backgrounds, especially Muslim and migrant youth.
- Commitment to EMCA’s values and youth development mission.
Desirable:
- Qualification in Youth Work, Social Care, Education, or related fields.
- Awareness of challenges affecting Muslim youth in London.
- Experience collaborating with local authorities, schools, or charities.
Working Hours & Conditions
- 10 hours per week (some evenings or weekends may be required).
- Rate: £15 per hour.
- Contract: One-year renewable, subject to funding availability.
